1099 TIN truncation to continue for 2 more years

The IRS has extended its pilot program under which filers of the Forms 1099 series of information returns may truncate the first five digits of payees’ Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TINs) on payees’ paper copies.

Quitting pending discharge means no unemployment comp

Milton car dealership settles wage-and-hour dispute

Milton-based McKenzie Buick GMC has settled a dispute over minimum wage, overtime pay and tracking of employees’ hours worked. An investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division revealed the dealership wasn’t maintaining accurate records of the hours many of its salespeople worked.

Base FMLA eligibility on date leave begins

Employees have to give 30 days’ notice before taking FMLA leave. That means some employees may ask for FMLA leave before they are actually eligible. For example, an employee may request time off for a serious health condition when he still has a few hours more to work before hitting the one-year or 1,250-hour milestone. Employers can’t deny the request merely because it was made before the employee became eligible.
