EEOC publishes state-by-state tally of discrimination charges

If you’re wondering how the number (and type) of employee discrimination charges in your state compares to the rest of the country, you can now analyze those statistics for the first time in a new database made public this week by the EEOC.

The private-sector workplace discrimination charge data is broken down by type of discrimination alleged, plus the percentage of total state and national charges. It displays stats for fiscal years 2009 to 2011. The EEOC will update the state data when new charge statistics are available each fiscal year. 

To find your state’s data, select it from the drop-down menu at the EEOC’s new database at:

www1.eeoc.gov/eeoc/statistics/enforcement/charges_by_state.cfm

On the EEOC’s Enforcement and Litigation Statistics page, you can also find a chart displaying the statistics for all 50 states for each of these years:
